TopSecret Chat is an advanced OTR (Off-The-Record) instant messaging application that is offered for free under the umbrella of the organisation Bona Fide NGO that is engaged in social impact missions.
In a world that is crawling of prying eyes and mass-surveillance programs, we provide an advanced OTR (Off-The-Record) instant messaging for untraceable communications and anonymous identity, secured with End-To-End encryption and Confidential Computing.
The best way to ensure TopSecret Chat remains available and free is to make a donation. Donations are never linked to your account and can be anonymous.
TopSecret Chat does not operate in the Darknet and it does not require any Darkweb software, configuration or authentication. Instead, we bring the benefits of complete privacy, anonymity and security from the restricted Dark Web into the public domain of the World Wide Web, freely accessible by everybody.
TopSecret Chat's core-engine is a proprietary technology, not released under an Open Source license.
The Android and iOS packages are signed for authenticity and the server-code is deployed encrypted to avoid tampering and elude mass-surveillance programs.
If you choose the anonymous download of the Android APK from our server, please verify the integrity of the SHA256 File Checksum.
However, we also reference some Open Source projects that are naturally exposed and available to the users for inspection.
We all want things to work perfectly all the time but sometimes a bug may be discovered. If you experience any problem please Contact us or report the issue directly using GitHub.
Any suggestion or idea you may have to improve the service is very welcome!

Every type of message (text, image, audio, location, attachment) has an icon indicating the delivery status, please refer to the examples below.
Internet connectivity is the most common reason for not being able to send or receive messages. To verify your internet connectivity just try browsing any web page from your device.
Another possible reason is that your device is out of sync with the notification system. To fix this, just tap on the Shield to unlock the application and re-sync the notification system automatically.
Someone may have blocked you when they do not want to receive messages from you. You cannot chat with someone who blocked you until they decide to release the block.
If you do not want to receive any messages from someone, then you can simply block them.
Just go to their Profile page and switch on the Block toggle. You can unblock someone at any time later on.
You can mute the sound of newly received and sent messages by simply switching on the Mute toggle in your Profile page. Please note the Mute feature is independent of your device audio settings.
When you receive a new message and TopSecret Chat is in the background, a new notification pops up automatically in the system tray.
You can stop receiving this type of notification by switching off the notification toggle in your Profile page. If you switch off notifications, you will need to manually check for new messages.
When you are not available or you are simply not in the mood to engage in a chat, then you can switch on the "Out of reach" toggle in your Profile page.
Other users will know that you are not available and the received messages will not be marked as being read.
You can send any attachment up to 10 MB each.
Some attachments that you receive may require to be saved locally and opened with the relevant application.
Please note that TopSecret Chat cannot scan any attachment against threats because they are End-To-End encrypted with no content traceability. The onus is on you to check against any threat once the attachment is on your device, like using an anti-virus or anti-malware software.
Yes you can, just text to yourself :-)
The personal Notepad is a simple but effective way to keep your confidential information up to 30 days. You can use all the features available in your Notepad such as taking a picture, recording you location, audio text messages and attachments.
You can create or manage up to 100 groups. Each group can have max 10 members. There is no limit to the number of groups that you can be part of, as long as you do not manage them.
Taking and sending a photo using TopSecret Chat won't leave any trace of the image on your device. While using the camera feature in TopSecret chat is preferable, bear in mind that cameras are very much device-specific and TopSecret Chat cannot always control all features, such as zooming and self-focusing: keep the camera steady when you take the shot to avoid a blurry image.
Otherwise, you can take a photo with your device availing of the camera device-controls and send the image as an Attachment after. In this case we recommend that you deleted the image from your device and all backup locations using a secure Data Erasure standard.
Capacity controls the maximum amount of data that you can transmit during the rolling 30 days.
To understand Capacity, you need to know that TopSecret Chat protects all your communications with End-To-End and Multi-Layer encryption, while our Confidential Computing technology ensures that your content is processed in your private memory enclave and secure even while in use, without being stored on any device or server, not even temporarily. This military-grade security level requires an intense processing power and higher Internet bandwidth compared to other messaging apps that are using only End-To-End encryption and local storage. As technology evolves, we will consider increasing the Capacity limit together with the network and device improvement available on the market.
When you enable the Auto-Purge feature, you can keep sending new messages when you reach the maximum of your Capacity by automatically purging the oldest messages when required. Instead, if you do not want to risk purging any old message during the 30 days rolling period, then keep the Auto-Purge feature switched off.
TopSecret Chat never accesses the contacts on your device nor will it attempt to identify relationships between contacts, such as friends, family, colleagues etc... When using TopSecret Chat you build independent connections with other users that are completely unlinked to your device contacts.
TopSecret Chat combines our Confidential Computing technology with End-To-End and Multi-Layer encryption, and a set period lifespan for your absolute privacy and security.
TopSecret Chat implements a military-grade security to communicate over the public Internet without identifying users or their messages. Thanks to our Confidential Computing technology, your End-To-End encrypted messages are processed in your private memory enclave and never stored on any device or in the Cloud, not even temporarily.
This makes your content untraceable.
That's easy, because they are always on by default, embedded into the application by design and cannot be switched off, not even temporarily.
You can also verify the authenticating signature of your recipients by scanning their QR Code with another device. TopSecret Chat blocks any communication that does not comply with all security requirements, for example while regenerating an authenticating signature.
No, you can't for the simple reason that backups defeat the true purpose of a classified communication.
Backups, even if highly encrypted, are meant to be stored (potentially out of your direct control, like on Cloud) posing the serious risk of being attacked and decrypted sooner or later.
TopSecret Chat has a locking feature that works independently of your device settings. This is to guarantee an extra security layer that can be controlled only by you and not by your device or other software that you may have installed.
The application and any communication get locked automatically on timeout or by clicking on the Shield icon that is always on the screen. Only you can unlock the application with your Unlock Code, either as a Pattern or PIN.
You can change your Unlock Code at anytime, but if you forget it then you will lose all your communications. To change the Unlock Code and the Auto-lock timeout, Login and go to your Profile >> Unlock.
You can avail of the 2FA (Two-Factor-Authentication) feature for extra security when registering or adding a valid email or mobile number to your account. The application sends an OTC (One-Time-Code) to your email address or mobile number that you will use to verify your identity during the Login.
The Smart feature allows to remember devices that you trust to simplify your next login. To manage the Smart 2FA and the linked devices, Login and go to your Profile >> Smart 2FA
Your email and mobile number are hidden by default to other users and never listed in search results.
You can decide to show your email and mobile phone number at any time, Login and go to your Profile >> Account.
You can be found only by your exact #hashtag by default.
You can decide to index your full profile at any time, so you can also be found by your name, nickname and organisation (even partially). Login and go to your Profile >> Account.
We can suspend your account for security reasons, if you have reported an unauthorised access or if you are in violation of our Terms. Please Contact Us for further information.
If you have an Anonymous Account, then you cannot recover your Password or Unlock Code and your account is lost for security reasons.
Otherwise, if you registered an email or mobile phone number against your account, then you can use the guided steps during the Login process to reset either your Forgotten Password or Unlock Code.
Your Password and Unlock code is strongly secured using a "one-way encryption" so that nobody can recover them when forgotten. Please note that if you reset the Password or Unlock Code then all your existing messages are lost. This also protects your classified communication should for example your email gets hacked.
Instead, if you remember your Password or Unlock Code, you can change them at anytime without loosing any of your existing messages.
If you believe that your Login credentials, such as Password and Unlock Code, are somehow compromised, then simply change them ASAP. It is recommended that you review also the security settings of your email account and device.
Always keep your Password and Unlock Code safe in your mind, never write them down or share with others, they are yours only.
TopSecret Chat gives you the peace of mind that you are looking for when such scenarios happen. You do not need to worry anymore about the safety of your confidential data sent or received within TopSecret Chat if your smartphone, tablet or computer is somehow put at risk.
The reason is simple, TopSecret chat never stores any content on your device thanks to our Confidential Computing technology that is always on. Always keep your Password and Unlock Code safe in your mind, never write them down or share with others, they are yours only.
In the case of your Email account being hacked, do not worry, your existing messages in TopSecret Chat won't be exposed. The reason is simple, all your messages will be inaccessible if the attacker resets your Password or Unlock Code to gain access to your TopSecret Chat account.
In this case, please contact your email provider to regain the legitimate access to your email account ASAP.
If you want to use TopSecret Chat behind your Organisation's firewall, ensure the following ports are open for TCP and UDP traffic. Please note that if some ports are closed, you might experience several issues, such as the App not loading correctly or missing notifications.
